News & Events
Our adolescent years can be one of the most influential periods in our lives, characterised by constant change. Subjected to a range of different experiences, young people face a number of challenges, and one of the areas where this can be most apparent is in their relationships with family and friends.
Whether it's pressure from peers, friction between family members or internal conflict, Relationships Australia NSW is here to help. We endeavour to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where young people can express their concerns and begin to move towards a solution.
At Relationships Australia NSW, we have extensive experience helping our clients to manage a range of issues. It makes no difference if a young person is in high school, working, pursuing higher education or unsure of their next step - we aim to treat each individual case with respect and consideration.
The issues facing youth can vary greatly. The influence of drugs and alcohol can be particularly prominent in the years during and post-high school, while coping with stress from academic pressure, bullying, home life or other circumstances can prove to be another considerable hurdle.
With all the changes and developments, physical, mental and social, it's not uncommon for young people to feel overwhelmed. This can lead to more serious concerns, particularly if they find it difficult to seek support from loved ones.
We have services that young people may find useful. Even if you aren't seeking an answer to your solution straight away, we can provide a space for you to express your concerns with an impartial and trained professional, potentially allowing you to gain a new perspective on the matter.
Young people can attend counselling sessions either on their own, or with their family to address issues around dispute resolution, grief, anxiety, depression, violence, stress and conflict, as well as sexuality and gender issues. Online Counselling is also available via chat or Skype (video calling).
We also offer Adolescent Family Therapy and Mediation Services to help young people and their families improve their relationships and resolve difficult issues such as escalating arguments or conflicts, as well as the upheaval that accompanies trauma, separation or loss.
Anyone between the ages of 15-25 years who has been in Out-of-Home Care in NSW can also access our Aftercare Resource Centre. We provide a free service for those people who are leaving care and are trying to plan for the future. Our experienced caseworkers can help to ensure you have the support you need to achieve your goals.
When you come to see us at Relationships Australia NSW, you'll be talking to a trained professional with a background in either psychology, social work, counselling or mediation. All of our counsellors or mediators meet or exceed the approval requirements of the Attorney General's Department, and undergo ongoing training.
If you'd like to take the first step in addressing any concerns you have, or believe someone you know may benefit from our services at Relationships Australia NSW, you can contact us to find out more.
