Collaborative Practice

Collaborative Practice

Support Services

If you are going through separation and would like to separate respectfully, in a non-adversarial fashion without intervention of the courts, Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice (ICP) may be for you.

ICP, which is ofter shortened to Collaborative Practice is like mediation but with a team. We will work together with you and your former spouse or partner, providing assistance in making arrangements for children, and sorting out financial and property matters.

Our team of experienced professionals will manage the process of separation for you by finding tailored solutions that suit your unique circumstances so that each of you can move forward in your own respective lives.

Our team of collaborative professionals includes the following:

  • A case manager/coach who will manage your case and assist you both in dealing with the complex emotions that arise at this time. They will also assist you in effective communication so that you can make the most efficient use of the service.
  • Two experienced collaborative family lawyers – so that you each have representation and someone who will provide you with legal advice and draw up any consent orders

You can also have:

  • A financial specialist – who will meet with both of you, individually and/or together to provide you with options and ideas as to how best to manage your finances and property
  • A child consultant –an expert in child development, who will guide you in making arrangements that are in the best interests of your children.

Following a preliminary intake the first person you will meet when you choose our Collaborative Practice program, is your case manager/coach.

They will organise some initial meetings to gain a deeper understanding of your circumstances and to ensure that this is the most suitable process for you.  They will also assist you with the selection of your lawyers prior to moving to 5-way meetings with yourselves, each of your lawyers and your case manager/coach. In these open, respectful and transparent meetings you will be assisted in reaching your agreements.
