Who is it for?
This qualification reflects the role of counsellors, who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities. Students will develop their own Integrative Approach to counselling through face-to-face intensives*, interaction and guidance from practice leaders within Relationships Australia.
Relationships Australia NSW delivers this qualification in partnership with Australian Institute of Social Relations, RTO 102358 (the training division of Relationships Australia South Australia Ltd).
What will it be like?
Rather than providing a ‘one size fit for all’ counselling style, we enable students to develop their own unique style of counselling incorporating:
- Personal qualities, skills and strengths
- Knowledge gained through life experiences, work roles and prior studies
- Preferences to therapeutic counselling styles, skills and techniques
- The skills and knowledge required to complete this program with a flexible therapeutic framework
- The skills and knowledge required to undertake general counselling work
- High level communication in a range of commonly used modalities
This course uses a blended delivery mode of online assessments and activities with face-to-face training available in Sydney (Macquarie Park) and Adelaide (Hindmarsh). Training is delivered via self-paced, online activities and assessment with classroom facilitated learning. All students have access to interactive texts and a course facilitator for ongoing support.
There is no required workplace component for the CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling.
This qualification equips you with the skills and knowledge to work in a defined and supported counselling role in an established agency rather than in independent practice and will add practical experience to an existing qualification.
Students enrolled into the Diploma of Counselling may be eligible for Student Membership of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia), see PACFA website for further details.
Upon successful completion of this qualification, you can gain employment within the community services sector with a focus on counselling including:
- Case Manager
Participants may be eligible to undertake further qualifications at Advanced Diploma or Graduate Diploma level.
Priority will be given to people with a background in health, community services or education and to those already providing services to support communities and individuals in either a volunteer or paid capacity.
All applicants will be required to undertake a suitability interview with the course coordinator.
You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) for this qualification. Students seeking recognition for all or part of a qualification must first complete the online Recognition Application.
