Who is it for?

The Graduate Diploma of Relationship Counselling equips you to work with therapeutic challenges of relationship dynamics through an immersion in systemic practice and theory. You will gain clinical skills, knowledge and confidence in managing the complexities and intricacies particular to working with couples and families.

This nationally recognised qualification equips students to respond appropriately to domestic and family violence and to work within a culturally competent framework with diverse couples and families within their wider social context.

Relationships Australia NSW delivers this qualification in partnership with Australian Institute of Social Relations, RTO 102358 a division of Relationships Australia South Australia.

What will it be like?

In this course, participants who successfully complete the learning and assessment activities will have acquired skills and knowledge about the dynamics and interactional patterns of couple and family relationships through a systemic lens. This systemic lens equips learners to conceptualise complex family and couple relationships within the wider context of their lives and to effectively develop counselling interventions to meet the goals and needs of the clients.

This course uses a blended delivery mode of online assessments and activities with face-to-face training available in Sydney (Macquarie Park). Training is delivered via self-paced, online activities and assessment with classroom facilitated learning. All students have access to interactive texts and a course facilitator for ongoing support.

Work Placement

This course uses a blended delivery mode of online activities and assessments and face-to-face training. Face-to-face blocks are focused entirely on practical training and include the minimum fifty (50) hours of clinical work placement at Relationship Australia NSW, Macquarie Park, Sydney. A current Working with Children check is required before commencing work placement.

Entry Requirements

To gain entry into the CHC81015 Graduate Diploma of Relationship Counselling you must hold:

  1. An undergraduate degree or higher qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychology, Social Work, Social Science or equivalent OR
  2. An accredited qualification in counselling at Diploma or Advanced Diploma level OR
  3. Previous experience in a family counselling environment in a job role involving the self-directed application of knowledge with substantial depth in some areas, the exercise of independent judgment and decision making, and a range of technical and other skills.

All applicants will be required to undertake a suitability interview with the course coordinator

Recognition

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) for this qualification. Students seeking recognition for all or part of a qualification must first complete the Recognition Application
