RAMS (Relationships Australia Mediation Service)

Relationships Australia Mediation Service supports people who are separating to resolve disagreements related to parenting and property matters. It enables people to resolve disagreements and to jointly develop property and/or parenting agreements for the future.

Who is it for?

If you or someone you know are having relationship difficulties and problems in the family, our mediation service – Relationships Australia Mediation Service can help.

Relationships Australia Mediation Service supports people who are separating to resolve disagreements related to parenting and property matters. This process is known as Family Dispute Resolution (FDR).

What will it be like?

FDR enables people to resolve disagreements and to jointly develop property and/or parenting agreements for the future.

FDR is cost and time-effective service and is an alternative to expensive and stressful legal interactions. . In addition, children manage better if their parents can find a way to cooperate about parenting.

It is recommended that parties seek legal advice before making any decisions regarding financial and property settlement.

How can it help me?

Issues that can be discussed in FDR include:

  • Living arrangements for children
  • Education
  • Improving communication skills
  • Child support
  • Health care and a range of other parenting issues.

Financial and property settlement is another common area that can be addressed in FDR.

Agreements reached can be written or verbal. If requested the FDR practitioners (FDRPs) will provide a typed copy of agreements. The FDR practitioner will also provide information as to additional steps required to make agreements legally binding.
