Meet one of our friendly staff – Therese

Born and raised in Sydney until a move to  Bathurst in early 2004 to be with her partner.

Her academic career includes – Undergraduate degree at Macquarie University – (where she did a BA and nearly became an English & History Teacher)! Then to UNSW to do the Grad Diploma in Information Management and Archives Administration completed in 1988. She remained in this field for 12 years.

Further studies, a Graduate Counselling Degree with Australian College of Applied Psychology which she completed by the end of 2006. Ongoing Professional Development includes – Level 1 and 2 with the Gottmans training courses; courses in Emotionally focused therapy for couples; and courses in Family Systems therapy; and Circle of Security Parenting course training.

The focus of her motivation in undertaking education to become a Counsellor was to assist people with their relationship/s which in her opinion create perhaps the greatest happiness and meaning in our lives. And as so many of us stumble, experiencing a lot of emotional pain in our relationships -she was and still is passionate to learn how to overcome these relationship hurdles – and then share this wisdom with her clients.

“I have been so lucky to have some counselling sessions at the Bathurst Centre and I'm extremely happy with the service I received. I have learnt skills and they listened to me during the time I didn't have anyone to talk to and couldn't do much to change the situation around me. The peace that I have kept in my memories from those sessions are still with me and I'm grateful for all the support that I received.”
