Building Stronger Families
You will learn how to build family connections that are strong, respectful and caring during weekly group sessions for Arabic-speaking men (18+) and another group for Tamil men (18+) who are new to Australia. In this free program, you’ll gain a better understanding of the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that impact relationships. You will also learn about the dynamics of power and control in families and of relationships between men and women in Australia. This private, confidential program is run by Arabic-speaking facilitators and also provides social support for your family.
Who is it for?
These groups are for:
• Arabic- speaking men and Tamil men aged over 18.
• This is a voluntary program for men who arrived to Australia in approximately the last 5 years
• Men who want to learn about domestic and family violence and improving their family relationships in Australia.
What will it be like?
It is common for people to experience some initial anxiety over the prospect of participating in a group, and don’t know what to expect. Being in a group offers a safe, supportive environment where you can share your thoughts and ideas, and learn from others experiencing similar challenges. Group participants say they feel less alone, isolated and judged, and that groups help in finding new solutions to dilemmas or problems.
Our groups typically have 8-12 participants. The group facilitators provide information, create discussion, allow for self-reflection, goal setting and learning new skills. You will experience a positive, practical approach that builds on strengths within yourself and in your relationships. Participating in a group program is an effective way to gain the confidence to turn negative habits and cycles into positive ones, manage strong emotions constructively and create the future you want.
- Clarify your problems.
- Gain new perspectives.
- Work through change.
